Leadership and I don't know where to pee!

Catchy title, huh.

As an adult, I am fairly confident in my ability to find a public restroom on my own.  I have been known to frequent restrooms in fast food locations, gas stations, and many a public building.

As a leader and a human being, I did not think I needed any help with this.

Apparently, I do.

I upgraded my cellphone yesterday to the Motorola Droid.  It is the newest smartphone that Verizon offers, and some say it is as close to the iPhone as you can get.  It is my first smartphone.

One of the differences between it and the iPhone is that the Droid only has 10,000 applications (apps) while the iPhone has about 75,000 apps.

Good gravy - what is wrong with us as a society that we need this many applications on our cellphones?  What does it say about us when we need our phones to tell us where the nearest bathroom is?

There is another application that will tell you where the boring parts are in a movie so that you can choose those times to go to the bathroom.

????????

We have to be careful as leaders not to lose our ability to make decisions and to think for ourselves.  If I downloaded all 10,000 apps, it is possible I would not have to make another decision in my life.  I could just download an app to help me decide.

Leaders, I beg you to welcome and embrace technology.  I want you to use it to help you engage your team and your department.  I need you to use it to be more efficient.

But I don't think you should be using it in place of your brain.  You are in a leadership role because someone thinks you are pretty smart.

So go ahead and keep thinking.  Keep using that noodle.  That is why you have a brain.  Don't let these new phones take away our ability to think for ourselves.

Now if you will excuse me, I have to go look on my phone to see if it will tell me where I parked my car...
