Leadership and Death
As a leader, what can you accomplish today that you have been putting off?
Luke Chapter 12 tells of the rich man who was storing up his goods for a happy and rich future, and then he hears that he was to lose his life that very night.
In the movie Dead Poet's Society, Robin Williams tells his students "Carpe Diem - Seize the Day!"
We are told over and over that life is fleeting, and that we should live every day as if it were our last. But how many of us actually do that?
I bring this up today as I am saddened by all the deaths recently. Here are the headlines from this week...
- "Death Toll in Indonesian earthquakes reaches 1100"
- "Typhoon in Samoa kills 169"
- "Mudslides kill 13 in Italy"
- "Police report 47th homicide in Birmingham"
Death is a part of life. But are we doing all we can to have an impact on the lives of others? It seems to me like we are too busy buying what we think we deserve and getting what is rightfully ours (I include myself in this group).
As leaders, we need to have a positive impact on our employees.
As leaders, we need to start mentoring others.
As leaders, we need to be faithful to our families and our kids and our organizations.
As leaders, we should remember that there may not be a tomorrow for us to accomplish what we want to accomplish.
Lead today! Don't wait for tomorrow...
