Leadership and Alltop
That is a scary thought!
Today, while searching for leadership articles for a training class, I came across a new website called Alltop. Here is how Alltop describes itself on its own website...
"You can think of Alltop as the “online magazine rack” of the web. We’ve subscribed to thousands of sources to provide “aggregation without aggravation.” To be clear, Alltop pages are starting points—they are not destinations per se. Ultimately, our goal is to enhance your online reading by displaying stories from sources that you’re already visiting plus helping you discover sources that you didn’t know existed."
My excitement came about when I realized that alltop has a site that lists many leadership websites and blogs...all in one place.
The good news is that this will save me lots of time.
The bad news is that most of this data is from third party sites - that is, from people like myself who just type what they want and feel no need to verify it. I (and you) need to make sure that we do not take web-content as face value. I feel the need to check and double-check anything involving facts if I am unsure of the validity of the website.
For example, on the leadership.alltop.com page, I can link directly to other blogs titled Smartbrief on Leadership, Great Leadership, Slow Leadership, Leadership Turn, Weekly Leader, Lead on Purpose, Thought Leaders, Lasting Leaders, and Suvival Leadership.
Whew! That's a lot of leadership opinions. But in keeping with the concept that you can never learn too much about leadership, I have already made a request to alltop for them to include my "Leadership and..." blog to the list.
So What's the lesson today? Well, there are two...
- There is no reason why any of you reading this cannot be a successful leader. We live in a time with the greatest of information at our fingertips. To say that you do not know how to lead is like swimming in the ocean and saying you wish there was more water. Get out there and find the content, and then APPLY it in your life.
- Keep your eyes and ears open for new technologies that can help you grow your leaders. Alltop will let you create your OWN webpage at no charge, and you can put as many web links on there as you would like. What a great way to showcase content, articles and newsfeeds that would be relevant to your team. Grow your team by embracing new technolgy, not by running from it...
Have a great day improving your leadership skills!
